Fundraising

Whoever said paying off your student account can’t be fun, hasn’t worked with the Oak Grove Band Boosters at HP Pavilion.

The Oak Grove Band Boosters (hey did you know thats you?) have been invited to join Aramark, HP Pavilion and YOUR San Jose Sharks to help raise money for local Non Profit Organizations.

As a member of the NPO group at HP Pavilion we are given many opportunities during the year to raise money for our group. Our group primarily works San Jose Sharks home games, but many times during the year popular events overbook the HP staff and they request extra NPO workers. During the 2010-2011 school year the O.G.B.B team of parents and volunteers have gotten to work concessions at San Jose Sharks home games, concerts, circus and ice shows as well as other sporting events and conventions held at HP Pavilion.

As a member of the O.G.B.B team your student account is credited a percentage of the funds earned for every event worked. So you could easily pay off your balance and not pay out of pocket. Many of the O.G.B.B team depend on these funds to help pay for student accounts, uniform replacements, and band trips.

Every year Aramark invites only a select few Non Profit Organizations to work with them and we have been lucky enough to be invited back for the 2011-2012 San Jose Sharks season. As a group we are responsible for providing workers for as many home games as possible. The larger our group of workers is, the more games we are assigned and the more money we can make for the program. Also larger numbers give us a higher chance that we will be asked to join Aramark in the future. The Aramark program is very important to our group because it is
one of the only programs available where your work can directly benefit your students account. Many of the students who travel to Europe use this fundraiser to pay for the trip. The next band and color guard European tour is currently slated for the 2013-2014 year.

As an NPO worker we are asked to work most of our shifts at one or more of the concession stands located inside of HP pavilion during Sharks home games. We provide support to the HP staff by cashiering, preparing or running food and serving beer . All NPO volunteers must be trained with Aramark prior to working a shift and must follow the employee guidelines at all times. Aramark provides many training dates at the beginning of the season and most training certifications last for 3 years. Occasionally Aramark will hold a special training class before the 3 years expire and ask you to attend for new information. Each training class is traditionally 3-4 hours in length. They go over the food service rules and guidelines as well as a very informative alcohol awareness session. It is recommended that you attend these classes early in the season even if you are not planning on working the year you are trained. Now to the part you really want to know.

How much does Aramark donate to the O.G.B.B and how much will my account receive?

During the 2010-2011 season the O.G.B.B team was paid $70 per game for each person scheduled. The Oak Grove Band Boosters have two major fundraising opportunities. One is Bingo and the other is the Aramark program. To help both fundraisers maintain staffing needs a system was created to help all people who work Aramark and Bingo receive a student account credit. If you work at least 2 Bingo shifts a month, your child’s account is credited 80% (Coming to $56), 1 Bingo shift a month 70% ($49). If you are not able to work bingo shifts your account will be credited 50% ($35) per Aramark shift. Every year the San Jose Sharks host at least 43 home games and In the last 8 years the Sharks have advanced to the post season providing NPO workers with even more opportunities to raise funds.

On Sep, 13th 2011 at 6 PM we will be holding an O.G.B.B and Aramark information meeting. If you are interested in getting more information please plan on attending. I encourage current O.G.B.B Team trained members to attend as well. If you are unable to attend but would like information on the program please email me at ogbbsharks@ogbb.org.
